Festive Halloween Treats with Shimmer & Delights: Creative Ideas for a Sweet Celebration

Halloween season brings with it an irresistible mix of creativity, fun, and delightful sweets. This year, Betty Mafla, owner of Shimmer & Delights, joined the Save A Lot kitchen to share a series of festive, easy-to-make Halloween treats perfect for families, parties, and anyone looking to add a sweet touch to the holiday.

With her signature blend of charm and expertise, Betty demonstrated several simple yet impressive confections that anyone can recreate at home.

A Family-Friendly Halloween in the Kitchen

Dressed for the occasion, Betty and the host set the scene for a playful and spirited Halloween segment. Betty, known for her beautifully designed dessert tables and themed treats, arrived ready to teach viewers how to make a trio of creative sweets using everyday ingredients.

Her goal? To show that festive desserts don’t have to be complicated. With a few basic tools and a bit of imagination, anyone can craft eye-catching, delicious creations.

1. Rice Krispies “Mummy” Treats

Betty began with a classic: Rice Krispies treats decorated as adorable mummies.

Each treat is dipped in a first layer of white chocolate. Once dry, she adds two candy eyes using a small dab of chocolate as adhesive. Then, with a piping bag, she drizzles thin lines of white chocolate across the surface to create the signature mummy “bandages.”

The result is charming, spooky, and surprisingly simple—perfect for kids to help decorate at home.

2. Halloween Pudding Cups

Next, Betty created a themed pudding dessert using clear Halloween cups.

The steps are straightforward:

  • Add two spoonfuls of crushed Oreos (with the cream removed) into the bottom of the cup.

  • Fill the center with orange-colored pudding to mimic a festive pumpkin.

  • Add another light layer of crushed Oreos.

  • Top with sprinkles, candies, or any Halloween-themed decorations of choice.

Finished with a small spoon, the cups are fun, colorful treats that children love—and they can easily customize their own.

3. “Scary Eye” Cake Pops

Betty then revealed a striking Halloween classic: cake pops decorated as bleeding eyes.

The process starts with a traditional cake pop dipped in white chocolate. After it sets, she uses edible colored chocolate to create a painted, imperfect effect—mimicking streaks and blurred lines for a spooky appearance.

The look is intentionally messy, capturing the eerie, dramatic feel of Halloween without requiring technical precision.

4. Spider Donuts

For a treat that looks intricate but is remarkably simple, Betty showcased her “Spider Donuts.”

Using a standard donut, she adds:

  • Three chocolate lines on each side to replicate spider legs

  • A munchkin donut hole in the center as the spider's body

  • Two candy eyes to complete the creature

This approachable design is perfect for school parties or quick, adorable Halloween snacks.

5. Chocolate-Covered Oreo Webs

Finally, Betty presented an elevated Halloween piece: chocolate-covered Oreos with white chocolate webs and custom-made chocolate skulls.

Each Oreo is dipped in chocolate, then drizzled with white chocolate to create a spiderweb effect. The skull toppers—made using molds and finished with shimmering edible accents—add a professional, eye-catching touch.

Though the skulls take a bit more time, the rest of the process remains accessible for home bakers.

A Growing, Family-Driven Business

Throughout the segment, Betty also shared more about her business. Shimmer & Delights continues to thrive, especially during wedding season and the holidays. A proud Ecuadorian, and married to a Colombian husband, Betty operates her company as part of a dedicated Hispanic family team committed to creativity, hard work, and community.

Their desserts and presentations reflect this passion, blending artistry with cultural pride.
